Started in 2020 as my own starter for HTML and CSS work, built with Sass. Refreshed in 2026 with what browsers now do natively: custom properties, cascade layers, nesting, a light and dark theme, and a menu built on the Popover API. Still no frameworks and no build step.
The parts
base.css
A short reset, sensible defaults, visible focus and reduced motion.
typography.css
Fluid headings with clamp(), readable line length, balanced wrapping.
layout.css
Sticky header, centred sections and a grid that reflows without media queries.
navigation.css
A hamburger menu on small screens, an inline menu on large ones. No JavaScript needed to open it.
